the end..of 23 things

WOW...This has been a long and trying trip.
As I was not born with computers and such
technology, I am still learning.
I've learned alot through this process.
One of my favorites was the firefox. And it's add ons.
I never knew there were so many things out there.
And that there was an option for Internet Explorer.

There were some of the 23 things that I could not
complete due to firewalls, or virus protections.  I need
to learn how to turn these off.  But is it safe.  Like you tube.
I won't use it as my daughter got a virus on her computer,
and the hard drive had to be wiped to correct it.
So my question is how do you know what sites to trust?
Even my email was hit, they got my friends list and have
been sending emails with my name as sender with all kinds
of junk mail, and some things that are not appropriate.  I
didn't even open up an attachment, just the email from someone
that was on my friends list that had already gotten hit.
So how do you prevent this, and if you get something like
this, how do you stop it.  Maybe this is something that
should be included in the 23 things.
During the process of getting these things done, I have gotten
way behind.  It took me longer to get them done as I'm still
learning about the internet.  I've NEVER blogged before.  Maybe
a few more instructions on how to do these things for those of
us that are internet illerate.
I did enjoy all the things I learned.  The internet is endless.
Something new to learn every day.

Thing 23

Creative commons.
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/
This at the bottom of our list of 23 things shows that
it was from another sourse in creative commons, and
modified for our class use.
this site would be great for finding things that you could
use in the classroom, modify it, and not have to worry about
the copyright.

Just a note:  http://www.thehistorychannel.com/  allows you
to download video's and pictures to be used in public
education only.

Thing 22

The podcast I listened to were from Learn out Loud.
http://www.learnoutloud.com/Podcast-Directory/History/American-History/US-Presidents-Podcast/24803
I really liked the podcast.  It's mainly for history buffs or american history
classes.
As I am a history buff, this is one that I will listen to often.
Would be great for research as well.

Thing 21

OK..here's another one I could not use.
Signed up, but was unable to upload any pictures.
Keep say that a firewall or virus protection would not
allow me to load.
Tried it from the house, work, and our office.
Still same problem.
Looks like it would be fun though.

thing 20

Youtube.
Sorry but I will not go to these sites.
My daughter and others have gotten virus's
from these sites.
These video's are loaded from someone's personal
computer and many do have virus's.
Sorry, but i've gotten enough of them from other places.
We had to wipe my daughters hard drive.  She lost all
her pictures and classwork.  DUE TO YOUTUBE

thing 19

I checked out the Bing site.
It's great.
Better than the other social sites.
I could not post as I'm still waiting for confirmation.
I liked it because it's teachers.
Don't have to look through everyone else, just educational

Thing 18

My space
http://www.myspace.com/iceman195737185

I have had a myspace account for some time.
However I just don't use it much.
While it is great for socializing, that's just something
I just don't have much time for.
I can see where teachers can pass on information
and assignments.
It would be great for people to keep in contact
with those who live away from them.
I can also see where students could create a class page
and add others, especially from other countries, and use it
as a class learning project

Thing 17

Social bookmarking.
I can see where this would be helpful to teachers
by passing on sites that they have found helpful.
However I don't see where this would be helpful for students.
I will use it, the more information we share with each
other the more we learn how to help our students

thing 16

I love it.  this is a real timesaver!
I will definately use it as my homepage.
already got it started.

I chose the frog background.  Just to put a smile on my
face every morning.

I really like the sticky notes.  It will let me remove the
real sticky notes from all around my screen and my desk.

I also like the remember the milk.  Especially as it will
send a message to my cell and remind me of things when
I'm away from my computer

thing 15 wiki

Ok...well here goes another problem...I signed in, created my account, did everything that I think I was suppose to but was unable to post.
But I did look at everyone's posts...They are awesome!...there are some really cool ideas out there.
I can see where the students would have a blast with this one.  It's great!

item 14

I chose Gliffy.  It's great to use for research papers and graphing.  Might need this one for our statistics class.

The second one is Bubbl.  This is a great program and very easy to use.  So far the easiest thing we've looked at so far.  Awesome for making flow charts.

thing 13

zoho writer

This is quite different than what I'm used to.  I'm used to ms word 2010.
There are quire a few differences with zoho.
This will take some time to learn, but I'm trying.

google calender

https://www.google.com/calendar/render?pli=1&gsessionid=OK

the first thing I used was the google calender.  It's great to keep me on schedule.
In the classroom it would be great to use for student schedules.

http://translate.google.com/#

google translate is great for students studying foreign languages.  For me personally it's great as I have several friends from other countries, now I can send letters and receive letters that we can both understand in our own language.

rss feed

While I can see the RSS feed used by those that use the internet alot, However I don't.  I don't see where it would be that helpful for me.
However, that being said, I can see where it can be used in classes such as contenporary issues.

number 9

ok..still learning...
number 9 took me over an hour to do.
It's from http://www.customsigngenerator.com/

it's my mustang on a fake magazine cover.

flicker

I'll try to attach a pic from flicker.
It is a simple sketch by robreyart.  I am always looking for
art work for my students to start with and work on detailing.
this is especially difficult with faces.

Blogging in general, thing 9, and my son

Ok..,just a short note.  Thing 9, RSS, won't load on the school web browser.  It's blocked.
But I am learning how to blog now thanks to Dr. Luck and my 13 year old son.  He thought it was cool that he knew something I didn't.  I'm usually helping him with his homework.  Now he's helping me with mine.

I'll try this from home later.  I'm on my lunch break right now

thing 6

For thing 6 I chose the Justin.TV http://news.cnet.com/8301-13546_109-10237734-29.html?tag=mncol
This is really cool.  It would be great for the kids to make their own news cast that could be seen in all the classrooms.  This is something that would be alot of fun for everyone.  The teachers could also make anouncements through video.  I know at our elementary school they announce the birthdays every morning.  They could actually show the kids, so everyone knew who it was.
